Using oil paint on wood panels, I invent sculptures and place them together in settings – where they can breathe and interact.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

As stories emerge, I think of new objects to add to the mix,<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

my process is a dialog,\u00a0an\u00a0<\/span><\/span>idea machine.<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

When painting, I hope to create a sort of incarnation of the objects themselves.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

I find shaping the wood \u201ccanvases\u201d helps that.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

The carved lines, expressing emotion for me, movement, and energy, are a vital part of \u00a0both the process and the finished piece \u2013 that important\u00a0physical engagement<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0I look for in art.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

I love wailing away with those sharp chisels!<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00ba<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

Ideally, when I paint,<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

my intention is to go into my studio alone and be totally present and alive to my visceral body, and the buzzing in my mind \u2013 fully immersed in my intuition.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

I pull out the\u00a0s<\/span><\/a>tories<\/span><\/a><\/span>, emotions and images running around inside and set them together, combine them \u2013 to see what they say about each other.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

“Making art” is compressing \u00a0that activity into an art object – that others can unpack and experience in their own way, on their own time.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00ba<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

I think good art satisfies\u00a0on several levels.<\/h2>\n

\u00a0First,\u00a0I want it to move me,<\/span><\/h3>\n

in the way that\u00a0music does \u2013 sensually.<\/span><\/h3>\n

Then, over time, as I live with these objects, day to day, I like the way that new ideas open up.<\/span><\/p>\n

My aim is to make and live with visual poetry.<\/span><\/h3>\n
